  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • as needed red icing (for decoration)
  • as needed chocolate chips (for eyes)

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and tools, and preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Whisk together and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and white sugar with a mixer for 3-5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter-sugar mixture and beat until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined to form a soft dough.
  • Shape the dough into small figures resembling voodoo dolls.
  • Place shaped cookies on ungreased cookie sheets and use chocolate chips to create eyes.
  • Bake cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool cookies on the sheet for a few minutes, then use red icing for decoration.
