Preparation

  • Start by gathering all the ingredients. Preheat your oven according to the cake mix package instructions.
  • Prepare the chocolate cake as directed on the package and allow it to cool completely.

Mixing and Shaping

  • Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
  • Mix in the creamy frosting until the mixture holds together evenly.
  • Roll small portions of the mixture into bite-sized balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Refrigerate the cake balls for about 30 minutes to firm them up.

Coating and Decorating

  • Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl or a double boiler.
  • Dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off before placing them back on the baking sheet.
  • While the chocolate is wet, sprinkle colorful toppings on the coated cake balls.
  • Let the chocolate set at room temperature or refrigerate to speed up the process.

Notes

Store the cake balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. They can also be frozen for up to three months.
