Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Ensure the turkey is thawed completely if frozen and rinse it under cold water.
  • Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.

Preheat the Smoker

  • Fire up your Traeger smoker and set it to 225°F.

Seasoning the Turkey

  • Rub the turkey all over with olive oil.
  • Season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and herbs.
  • Ensure some seasoning goes inside the cavity.

Placement in the Smoker

  • Place the turkey breast side up on the smoker grate, centered for even cooking.

Insert the Thermometer

  • Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the breast.

Smoking

  • Close the lid and smoke the turkey for 30-40 minutes per pound, aiming for an internal temperature of 165°F.

Resting the Turkey

  • Once cooked, remove the turkey from the smoker and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

Carving and Serving

  • Carve the turkey into serving pieces and serve with your favorite sides.

Notes

Store leftovers properly in an airtight container; turkey can last 3-4 days in the fridge. For reheating, cover with foil and warm in a preheated oven at 325°F.
