Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and measure them properly.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even cooking.

Cooking

  • Peel and cube the yams, then place them into a pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  • Drain the yams and transfer them to a mixing bowl. Mash the yams until smooth and creamy.
  • Mix in the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  • Transfer the yam mixture to a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Sprinkle marshmallows generously on top of the yam mixture.
  • Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, until marshmallows are golden brown.
  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For lower-sugar options, substitute brown sugar with coconut sugar or maple syrup. Make sure to adjust liquid content if necessary. Use vegan options if needed, such as coconut or vegan butter and plant-based marshmallows.
