Ingrédients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices whole grain bread Any bread you enjoy will work.
  • 1/2 cup spicy cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 apple, thinly sliced (preferably a crisp variety like Granny Smith) Experiment with different types of apples for varying flavors.
  • 1/4 cup arugula Feel free to swap with spinach or lettuce based on your taste.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard Adds flavor to the sandwich.
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil Can substitute with dairy-free margarine if desired.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Shred the spicy cheddar cheese if it isn’t pre-shredded. Slice the apple thinly, aiming for uniformity for the best texture.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat, ensuring it’s warm enough to get that perfect golden crust.

Assembly

  • Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on one side of each slice of bread.
  • On one slice of bread, place the shredded spicy cheddar cheese generously.
  • Layer the thin apple slices on top of the cheese, following with the arugula.
  • Top with the second slice of bread, keeping the mustard side down.

Cooking

  • Brush the outer sides of the sandwich lightly with olive oil.
  • Carefully place the sandwich in your preheated skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  • Keep an eye on the sandwich. You want the cheese to be melted and gooey.

Serving

  • Once cooked, remove the sandwich from heat, slice it in half, and serve warm.

Notes

Wrap the sandwich tightly in foil or plastic wrap and store in the fridge for 1-2 days. For freezing, maintain texture by thawing overnight before reheating.
