Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients in one place. Dice the ripe pear and measure the oats and liquid you’re using.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan, bring the water or milk to a boil over medium heat.
  • Once boiling, add the rolled oats and a pinch of salt. Stir well, then reduce the heat to low.
  • Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, until the oats soften and begin absorbing the liquid.
  • Stir in the diced pear, cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey or maple syrup. Mix until everything is well combined and fragrant.
  • Cook for another 3-5 minutes, until the oats are creamy and the pear softens.
  • If the oatmeal is too thick, add a bit more water or milk to reach your desired consistency. Stir well.
  • Take a moment to taste your Spiced Pear Oatmeal. Adjust sweetness or spices as you please.
  • Transfer to a bowl and serve immediately. If using, sprinkle chopped nuts on top.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, microwave for a minute or two, adding a splash of water or milk. Can freeze for up to 2 months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
