Ingrédients
  

For the Marinade

  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye) Can substitute with chicken or tofu.
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce For marinade.
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce Optional for marinade.
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

For Cooking

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil For cooking and frying.
  • 1 large onion, sliced

For the Sauce

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce For sauce.
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce Optional, for sauce.
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Used to thicken the sauce.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Prep your workspace and ensure the kitchen is tidy.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the marinade ingredients. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let sit for 10-15 minutes.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the sliced onion for 5-7 minutes until soft and caramelized. Remove from skillet.
  • Increase heat to high and add 2 tbsp vegetable oil. Add marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes.
  • Prepare the sauce by whisking together sauce ingredients in a bowl, then pour over the beef. Allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • Return sautéed onions to the skillet and mix in with the beef and sauce, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary before serving.
  • Serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container. Reheat gently to avoid overcooking the beef.
