Ingrédients
  

For the Cookies

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 2 sticks
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ounce red food coloring 2 tablespoons
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened 1 stick
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream optional, for desired consistency

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Ensure your butter is softened, eggs are at room temperature, and your workspace is clean.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar

  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla

  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing until just combined. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Prepare Color Mixture

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the red food coloring, cocoa powder, and white vinegar until combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Chill the Dough

  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Bake the Cookies

  • Prepare the baking sheets and drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto them, leaving space in between.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 9-11 minutes.

Cool and Frost

  • Let cool before frosting with the cream cheese frosting prepared by beating together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla, adding milk to reach desired consistency.

Notes

Store the cookies in an airtight container. They can be refrigerated for up to three days or frozen for up to three months.
