  • 10 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 whole egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract use less for a milder flavor
  • 6-12 drops green food coloring adjust for desired color
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 24 pieces chocolate Kisses

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all ingredients and measuring them out for a smoother baking experience.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Line the baking sheet with parchment paper, a Silpat mat, or spray with nonstick baking spray.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the room temperature butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the whole egg, then the egg yolk, followed by the peppermint extract and green food coloring.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the creamed mixture until well combined.
  • Roll portions of dough into 1-inch balls.
  • Place the dough balls on the prepared cookie sheet, spaced apart.

Baking

  • Bake for 7-9 minutes. Check for doneness at 8 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and let sit for about 2 minutes before pressing a chocolate Kiss into the center of each cookie.

Cooling

  • Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. To freeze, place on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
