Main Ingredients

  • 4 fillets cod Fresh or thawed, cod is a mild fish that absorbs flavors well.
  • 4 tablespoons butter Unsalted butter is preferred for better control over seasoning.
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice Freshly squeezed lemon juice lifts the flavors; bottled can work in a pinch.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic adds a bold flavor profile that complements the dish beautifully.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances and balances the flavors. Adjust to taste if you're watching sodium.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Provides a gentle kick and enhances the overall taste.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped Adds a pop of color and freshness when garnished.

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Ensure the cod fillets are thoroughly thawed and pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Be careful not to brown it.
  • Once the butter is melted, add the minced garlic. Sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Stir in the lemon juice, salt, and pepper into the garlic butter mixture.
  • Lightly grease a baking dish and arrange the cod fillets in a single layer.
  • Pour the lemon garlic butter sauce over the cod fillets.

Cooking

  • Bake the cod in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until it flakes easily with a fork.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
