Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the garlic and ginger, sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the ground beef, breaking it apart, and cook until fully browned.
While the beef is cooking, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil and red pepper flakes in a small bowl.
Pour the sauce over the cooked beef, reduce heat slightly, and simmer for a few minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat.
To assemble, divide the cooked rice among bowls, top with the Korean-style beef, then garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
You can add extra toppings like shredded carrots, sliced cucumber, or a drizzle of sriracha mayo to make it more colorful and flavorful. This recipe also works well for meal prep.
