  • 1 loaf Italian or French bread cut lengthwise

Toppings

  • ½–⅔ cup pizza sauce or marinara
  • 1½–2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded or sliced
  • grated Parmesan or provolone optional, for extra flavor
  • Italian seasoning or basil optional, to finish
  • toppings of choice (pepperoni, olives, veggies) optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 400 °F (200 °C). If desired, lightly toast the bread spread with butter or olive oil first.
  • Place the bread cut-side up on a baking sheet. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the bread.
  • Sprinkle mozzarella and optional Parmesan or provolone over the sauce, then add any desired toppings.
  • Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread edges are crisp.
  • Optionally, broil for 1–2 minutes to brown the cheese. Remove, sprinkle with Italian seasoning or fresh basil, slice, and serve.
