Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • Measure out all ingredients to ensure everything is ready.

Mixing the Batter

  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk.
  • Incorporate red food coloring until the batter reaches your desired shade.

Baking

  • Divide the batter evenly between the two greased pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cooling and Decorating

  • Allow cakes to cool in their pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, frost generously with buttercream and decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles.
