  • 1 cup Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread) At room temperature for easy spreading
  • 1 cup Fresh strawberries, sliced Sliced thinly for even distribution
  • 1 egg Egg (for egg wash) Beaten for brushing pastries
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar (for sprinkling) To sprinkle on top before baking

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients on a clean countertop.
  • Slice the strawberries into thin pieces and have your Nutella at room temperature.

Baking Process

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Unroll the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and roll out to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut the puff pastry into heart shapes, ensuring an even number.
  • On half of the heart shapes, spread about a tablespoon of Nutella, leaving space around the edges.
  • Layer sliced strawberries over the Nutella on the same half.
  • Place the remaining heart shapes on top and gently press down the edges to seal.
  • Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch and secure seal.
  • Brush the tops with beaten egg wash to achieve golden-brown color.
  • Sprinkle sugar on top of each pastry before placing in the oven.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Allow Nutella to reach room temperature for easier spreading. You can customize the filling with different fruits, and don’t forget to dust with powdered sugar before serving for an elegant touch.
