  • 2 cups ripe mulberries Make sure to wash and remove stems
  • 1 cup sugar Granulated sugar works best
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Freshly squeezed is recommended
  • 1 packet fruit pectin Optional, for thicker jam

Preparation

  • Wash the ripe mulberries thoroughly in cold water, then pat dry.

Cooking

  • In a large pot, combine the prepared mulberries, sugar, and lemon juice.
  • Mash the mulberries slightly to release their juices.
  • Set the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.
  • If using, add the fruit pectin according to the packet instructions.
  • Perform the cold plate test to check if the jam is ready.
  • Prepare clean, sterilized jars while the jam cooks.
  • Fill the sterilized jars, leaving a quarter-inch of space at the top.
  • Seal the jars with lids immediately after filling and allow to cool.

Notes

Store in the refrigerator for up to a month, or process in a boiling water bath for long-term storage. For customization, consider adding spices like vanilla or cinnamon.
