  • 6 cups water 4 cups for boiling, 2 cups for dilution
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust to taste
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice Juice from about 4-6 lemons

  • Fresh mint for garnish

Preparation

  • Begin by measuring 2 cups of dried hibiscus flowers and gathering the remaining ingredients (water, sugar, fresh lemons).
  • In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the dried hibiscus flowers and steep for about 10 minutes.
  • After steeping, strain the hibiscus mixture into a pitcher and discard the flowers.
  • Add 2 cups of cold water to the strained hibiscus base, and gradually stir in the sugar until fully dissolved.
  • Pour in 1 cup of fresh lemon juice and stir to combine.
  • Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for 1-2 hours to chill.
  • Serve over ice in tall glasses.
  • Garnish each glass with a slice of lemon or a sprig of fresh mint before serving.

Notes

Store any leftover lemonade in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. For variations, try adding ginger during steeping or mix in fresh berries.
