  • 1 bottle (750ml) red wine (Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon) Pick a wine you enjoy drinking.
  • 1 cup brandy (or orange liqueur) Use orange liqueur for a twist.
  • 1/4 cup orange juice Freshly squeezed is best.
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup Adjust sweetness to taste.

Fruits and Spices

  • 1 apple, cored and diced Green apples add a nice tartness.
  • 1 orange, sliced Provide color and flavor.
  • 1 cup cranberries Fresh or frozen.
  • 1 cinnamon stick For a warm, festive touch.

Preparation

  • Dice the apple, slice the orange, and rinse the cranberries under cool water.
  • In a large pitcher or bowl, combine the wine, brandy, orange juice, and simple syrup. Stir well.
  • Fold in the diced apples, sliced oranges, and cranberries.
  • Add the cinnamon stick for flavor.
  • Cover and chill the mixture for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Taste the sangria and adjust the sweetness or citrus as needed.
  • Serve in glasses filled with ice, including some fruit pieces.
  • Top with club soda or ginger ale for a fizzy kick.
  • Garnish each glass with fresh mint leaves before serving.
