Ingrédients
For the Cake Layers
- 1 prepared prepared angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes Store-bought or homemade
- 1 can (21 oz / 595 g) cherry pie filling
For the Cream Layer
- 1 package (8 oz / 225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 container (8 oz / 225 g) whipped topping (Cool Whip style)
For the Pudding Layer
- 1 package (3.4 oz / 96 g) vanilla instant pudding mix
- 1 ½ cups (360 ml) cold milk
For Garnish
- ½ cup (50 g) toasted sliced almonds or crushed vanilla wafers optional
- Extra whipped topping for garnish, optional
Instructions
Preparation
- Gather all the ingredients and ensure that the cream cheese is softened.
- In a 9x13-inch glass dish, spread half of the angel food cake cubes evenly across the bottom.
- Spoon the cherry pie filling evenly over the layer of cake cubes.
- Top the cherry layer with the remaining cake cubes and press down slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth, then add powdered sugar and mix well, followed by folding in the whipped topping.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cake layer evenly.
- In another bowl, whisk the vanilla pudding mix with cold milk for about 2 minutes until thickened.
- Spread the pudding evenly over the cream cheese layer.
- Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Before serving, sprinkle with toasted almonds or crushed wafers and add extra whipped topping if desired.
Notes
This cake is great for making ahead and keeps well in the fridge for 3-5 days. You can use other fruit fillings or variations to suit your taste.
