Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients on a clean workspace.
  • Measure out the flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set them aside.

Mixing Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Whisk lightly to ensure they’re evenly mixed.

Creaming

  • In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth, about 3 minutes with a hand mixer.

Adding Wet Ingredients

  • Beat in the egg, followed by the vanilla and almond extracts.

Combining Mixtures

  • Gradually blend the dry mixture into the creamed mixture until it forms a dough.

Rolling Out Dough

  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and roll it out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.

Cutting Cookies

  • Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out shapes from the rolled-out dough and place them on ungreased cookie sheets.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for about 8 to 10 minutes until golden at the edges but still soft in the middle.

Cooling

  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Preparing Icing

  • In a separate bowl, mix the confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and enough water to reach your desired icing consistency.
  • Add food coloring if desired.
