Preparation

  • Begin by gathering all your ingredients. Chop the onion, garlic, and any vegetables you choose to use. Measure out the orzo and broth to ensure everything is ready to go.

Cooking the Base

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

Cooking the Turkey

  • Next, add the pound of ground turkey to the skillet. Cook it, breaking apart the meat with a spatula, until it’s browned and fully cooked, approximately 5-7 minutes.

Adding Tomatoes and Vegetables

  • Once the turkey is cooked, stir in the diced tomatoes along with your chopped vegetables. This adds a fresh burst of flavor to the dish.

Cooking Orzo

  • Pour in the orzo pasta and the chicken broth. Stir everything together to combine.
  • Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
  • Cover the skillet and let it simmer for about 10-12 minutes, until the orzo is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.

Final Seasoning

  • Once cooked, remove the lid and add salt and pepper to your liking. Adjust any additional herbs or spices as desired.
