Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen green beans
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk can substitute with coconut milk for a dairy-free version
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 cup fried onions (divided)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese can substitute with mozzarella or nutritional yeast for vegan version
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Rinse the green beans and set them aside. If using fresh beans, trim the ends.

Cooking the Base

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and soy sauce and blend until creamy.

Assembling the Casserole

  • Fold the green beans into the creamy mixture until coated.
  • Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add about half of the fried onions into the mixture.
  • Lightly grease a baking dish and pour the green bean mixture into it, spreading evenly.

Baking

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, sprinkle remaining fried onions and cheddar cheese on top.
  • Return to oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serving

  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For a spicier version, add chopped jalapeños. For gluten-free, ensure cream of mushroom soup is certified gluten-free.
