  • 1 pound beef, sliced (such as sirloin or flank steak) Slice against the grain for tenderness.
  • 2 cups rice (white or brown) Rinse under cold water until clear.
  • 4 tablespoons garlic butter
  • 4 cups beef broth (low-sodium preferred) Use warm broth to avoid disrupting cooking.
  • 1 each onion, chopped Chop finely.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)
  • to taste chopped parsley for garnish

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Slice the beef thinly against the grain for tenderness, and chop the onion finely. Rinse the rice under cold water until it runs clear.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, melt the garlic butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the chopped onions and sauté until they’re translucent, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Increase heat to medium-high and add the sliced beef to the skillet. Cook until browned all over, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in the rinsed rice and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring continuously to toast the rice.
  • Pour in the beef broth and add salt, pepper, and soy sauce. Stir thoroughly and bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and let simmer for about 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes, remove from heat and let sit covered for an additional 5 minutes to finish cooking.
  • Fluff the rice gently with a fork and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider adding vegetables such as bell peppers or broccoli during the cooking process for added nutrition and flavor. Adjust seasonings to taste.
