Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 4×8 inch loaf pan.
Mash the ripe bananas in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
Stir in the melted butter until fully combined.
Add the baking soda and a pinch of salt; mix well.
Incorporate the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract; stir until smooth.
Gradually mix in the flour until just combined; do not overmix.
Fold in optional nuts or chocolate chips.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 60–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
