  • 2 large eggs Beaten; can substitute with a plant-based egg replacer
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Use panko for extra crunch
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Can substitute with dairy-free cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil For frying

Preparation

  • Peel and slice the onions into thin rings about ¼ inch thick. Separate the rings and set aside.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat the two eggs until well combined.
  • In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix thoroughly.

Breading

  • Set up a breading station with the bowls of seasoned flour, egg wash, and breadcrumb mixture in a line.
  • Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then the egg wash, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Press gently to ensure even coverage.

Cooking

  • Heat enough vegetable oil in a large skillet to cover the bottom, about ½ inch deep over medium heat.
  • Carefully place a few onion rings into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried onion rings to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  • Continue frying the remaining onion rings in batches.

Serving

  • Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce, such as ranch, marinara, or spicy aioli.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat in a preheated oven at 375°F until crispy or use an air fryer.
