Main ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries Make sure to wash thoroughly.
  • 3 cups peeled and chopped apples Any variety preferred.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Optional, for added warmth and flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by washing the cranberries thoroughly under cold water. Remove any stems or blemished berries.
  • Peel the apples and chop them into small cubes to ensure they cook evenly.

Cooking

  • In a medium-sized pot, combine the cranberries, chopped apples, sugar, water, and cinnamon.
  • Over medium heat, bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Once the mixture reaches a rolling boil, reduce the heat to a simmer and allow it to simmer for approximately 20 minutes.
  • Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and to help break down the apples.

Finishing

  • Check the texture; you want the apples soft enough to mash easily.
  • Blend to desired consistency using an immersion blender or a regular blender.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness if needed before allowing it to cool completely.
  • Serve warm or refrigerate for later use.

Notes

For a lower-sugar version, reduce the amount of sugar, or use honey or maple syrup. The sauce stores well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
