  • 2 cups cranberries (fresh or frozen)

Crust Topping

  • 1 cup brown sugar Substitute with coconut sugar if desired.
  • 1 cup rolled oats Use gluten-free oats if needed.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Use gluten-free flour if necessary.
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed Can replace with coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Wash the cranberries and peel and slice the apples thinly.

Cooking the Base

  • In a mixing bowl, combine cranberries, sliced apples, and half of the brown sugar. Mix gently and spread evenly in a greased baking dish.

Preparing the Topping

  • In a separate bowl, mix rolled oats, all-purpose flour, remaining brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Add cubed cold butter to the oat mixture and blend until crumbly resembling coarse crumbs.

Assembling and Baking

  • Sprinkle the crumbly oat mixture evenly over the cranberry and apple mixture in the baking dish.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 35-45 minutes or until topping is golden brown and fruit is bubbling.

Serving

  • Allow to cool slightly before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
