  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup diced ham or sausage or bacon
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried herbs optional
  • 1 loaf stale bread cut into cubes

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and dried herbs.
  • Grease a baking dish and layer the cubed bread evenly at the bottom.
  • Sprinkle the diced ham and shredded cheese over the bread.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers, pressing gently to absorb.
  • Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until golden and set in the center.
  • Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Use stale bread for the best texture. Add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers for color and flavor. Can be prepared the night before and baked fresh in the morning. Store leftovers refrigerated up to 4 days, or freeze up to 3 months.
