  • 8 slices slices of bread, cubed Use any type of bread preferred.
  • 1 pound of breakfast sausage Cooked and browned in advance.
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese Can replace with your favorite cheese.
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups of milk Substitute with almond or oat milk for a dairy-free version.

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder

Preparation

  • Begin by cubing the bread into bite-sized pieces.
  • In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Break it into small pieces as it cooks, then drain any excess grease.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to create a uniform, creamy mixture.

Assembly and Baking

  • In a greased baking dish, layer the cubed bread evenly at the bottom.
  • Add a layer of the cooked sausage, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the layers, ensuring all the bread is saturated.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45-50 minutes or until set in the middle and golden brown.
  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing into squares or rectangles.

Notes

This casserole can be prepared ahead of time the night before. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days, or freeze before baking for longer storage.
