  • 500 g chicken breast, cubed
  • 1 cup yogurt Can use dairy-free yogurt for substitutions.
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons tikka masala spice mix Quality spices are fundamental for a good outcome.
  • 2 tablespoons oil For cooking.
  • 1 large onion, chopped To be sautéed.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can substitute with coconut milk for a lighter version.
  • to taste Salt
  • as needed Cilantro for garnish

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Cut the chicken breast into cubes and set aside.
  • In a bowl, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, and tikka masala spice mix. Toss in the cubed chicken, ensuring each piece is coated. Let it marinate for at least an hour.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan. Cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the marinated chicken to the pan. Sauté until the chicken is cooked through and browned, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, mixing well with the chicken and spices. Let this simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Mix in the heavy cream and cook for another 5 minutes on low heat. Season with salt to taste.

Serving

  • Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

Pairs well with basmati rice, naan bread, and cucumber raita. Can be frozen for up to 3 months and reheated.
