  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream Substitute with cashew cream for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing

Preparation

  • Start by washing and peeling the potatoes. Thinly slice them, ensuring uniform thickness for even cooking.
  • Take 2 tablespoons of butter and generously grease your baking dish.

Layering and Baking

  • Place half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  • Sprinkle half of the minced garlic, salt, and pepper over the first layer of potatoes.
  • Add half of the grated cheddar and Gruyere cheeses over the first layer.
  • Repeat the process by adding the remaining sliced potatoes, followed by the remaining garlic, salt, pepper, and cheese.
  • Pour the heavy cream over the layered potatoes.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and allow it to bake for an additional 15 minutes to achieve a golden-brown crust.
  • Let the dish rest for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Consider adding herbs like thyme or rosemary for additional flavor. This dish can be made ahead of time and baked just before serving.
