Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by gathering all your ingredients. Chop the onion, bell pepper, and mince the garlic. Shredding the cheese is also helpful to ensure it melts quickly later.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until it’s browned, breaking it up as it cooks. This usually takes about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  • Once the beef is cooked, stir in the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender and the onion is translucent.
  • Next, pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Stir well to combine everything. Bring this mixture to a simmer and let it cook for an additional 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  • After simmering, reduce the heat to low. Sprinkle the provolone cheese over the meat mixture. Cover the skillet and let it sit for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and gooey.

Assembly

  • While the cheese is melting, you can prepare your hoagie rolls. Slice them down the center but not all the way through, creating a pocket for the filling.
  • Carefully spoon the cheesesteak filling into each hoagie roll. Be generous to ensure each bite is filled with that delicious mixture.

Serving

  • Serve the cheesesteak style sloppy joes immediately while they are warm. Adding extra toppings or sauces can brighten the dish!

Notes

For extra flavor, mix different types of cheese or add spices such as paprika. Keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
