For the Base

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Rinse the tomatoes, chop them into small, even dice, and place them in a mixing bowl.
  • Mince the garlic and chop the fresh basil to release its fragrant oils.

Mixing Ingredients

  • In the mixing bowl with the tomatoes, add the minced garlic, chopped basil, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Stir gently to combine all ingredients without smashing the tomatoes.

Toasting the Bread

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Slice your baguette diagonally into 1/2-inch thick pieces.
  • Place the baguette slices in a single layer on a baking sheet and toast in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes.

Serving

  • Remove the toasted bread from the oven. Spoon the tomato and basil mixture onto each slice.
  • Serve immediately while the bread is still warm and crispy.

Notes

Bruschetta is best enjoyed fresh, but you can prep the components separately. Store the tomato mixture in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep toasted baguette slices in an airtight container at room temperature for the best texture.
