  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or Colby-Jack cheese
  • 3 cups cubed bread (French, brioche, or sandwich bread) Fresh bread recommended for better texture.
  • 0.5 cup diced onion
  • 0.5 cup diced bell pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter For greasing the baking dish.

Preparation

  • Gather and prepare all ingredients: cube the bread, crumble the sausage, and chop the onion and bell pepper.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Grease a baking dish with melted butter.
  • Spread cubed bread evenly across the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  • Add the crumbled sausage, diced onion, diced bell pepper, and shredded cheese over the bread.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered ingredients.
  • Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  • Let the casserole cool for about 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For additional flavor, consider adding fresh herbs or a crispy topping like breadcrumbs during the last 10 minutes of baking. Easy to customize with various meats or veggies.
