Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and tools, including a large pot or air popper, saucepan, bowl, and lined baking sheet.
  • Pop the popcorn kernels using your preferred method. Transfer popcorn to a bowl.
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Once melted, stir in red velvet cake mix and sugar until smooth.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and optional food coloring.
  • Pour the warm mixture over the popped popcorn and gently fold until even coated.
  • Spread the coated popcorn onto the lined baking sheet.
  • Allow to cool completely for about 15-20 minutes before breaking apart any clumps.
