Teriyaki Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup honey Can substitute with agave or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch For thickening
  • 2 tablespoons water To mix with cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Chop the garlic and ginger, measure your soy sauce, honey, and sesame oil, and rinse the rice.

Cooking the Rice

  • Cook the rice according to package instructions, usually about 15-20 minutes. Fluff it with a fork and set aside.

Making the Teriyaki Sauce

  • In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Heat over medium, stirring until simmering.

Thickening the Sauce

  • Mix cornstarch with water until smooth, then add to the simmering sauce. Stir continuously until thickened for about 1-2 minutes and remove from heat.

Cooking the Chicken

  • Heat a small amount of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken breasts for 6-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.

Coating the Chicken

  • Pour the teriyaki sauce over the chicken, ensuring it's coated, and simmer for an additional minute.

Steaming the Broccoli

  • Steam broccoli florets until tender, about 3-4 minutes.

Assembling the Bowl

  • Plate with a base of rice, top with teriyaki chicken, steamed broccoli, and drizzle any remaining sauce.

  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, then serve hot.
