Ingrédients

For the Filling

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Sandwich

  • 4 slices provolone or Gruyère cheese
  • 4 buns brioche or burger buns

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Thinly slice the onions and mince the garlic.

Cook the Onions

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and dried thyme. Stir occasionally for about 20-25 minutes until caramelized.

Brown the Beef

  • Push the onions to one side and add the ground beef into the empty section of the skillet. Brown the beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.

Add Garlic and Seasonings

  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for one additional minute until fragrant.

Incorporate Worcestershire Sauce and Broth

  • Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and beef broth. Stir and allow to simmer for 5-10 minutes until slightly reduced.

Toast the Buns

  • Toast the buns in a dry skillet or oven until golden and slight crispy.

Assemble the Sloppy Joes

  • Spoon the beef-onion mixture onto the bottom halves of your toasted buns.
  • Add a slice of cheese on top and cover briefly to let it melt.
  • Top with the upper half of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve with sides like crispy sweet potato fries or a fresh salad. Customize by adding fresh herbs or avocado.
