Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather and prepare your ingredients: trim the green beans.

Cooking the Green Beans

  • In a pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and parboil for 5-7 minutes until tender but still crisp. Drain and set aside.

Making the Sauce

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Stir until well mixed.

Combining Ingredients

  • Add the cooked green beans to the mixing bowl with the sauce. If using cheese, fold it in at this stage.

Layering the Dish

  • Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Adding Toppings

  • Sprinkle the crispy fried onions generously on top.

Baking

  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the sauce is bubbling and the onions are golden brown.

Garnishing and Serving

  • Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Optionally, add an extra sprinkle of fried onions for presentation.
  • Scoop out portions with a spatula, ensuring to get both beans and sauce.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. For longer storage, freeze before baking.
