Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein Noodles

For the Marinade

  • 1 pound steak (flank steak or sirloin, sliced) Use sliced beef for tenderness
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce For marinade
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch For marinade
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar For marinade
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger For marinade

For the Sauce

  • 3/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup oyster sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey (or brown sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon browning sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons water For cornstarch slurry
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch For thickening sauce

Main Ingredients

  • 16 ounces broccoli florets Fresh broccoli
  • 16 ounces noodles (spaghetti or lo mein) Choose based on preference
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil For frying
  • 1/4 cup onions (diced)
  • 1/8 cup garlic (diced) Fresh garlic recommended
  • 1/8 cup ginger (diced) Fresh ginger for better flavor

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Slice the beef into thin strips against the grain.
  • Chop broccoli into small florets.
  • Mince garlic and ginger, then dice the onions.

Cooking

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the noodles according to package instructions until al dente.
  • In a medium bowl, combine low sodium soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, and rice vinegar, whisking until well blended.
  • Mix cornstarch and water in a separate bowl to create a slurry.
  • Combine sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, rice wine vinegar, and ground ginger in another bowl. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  • Heat sesame oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat and sear the marinated beef for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
  • In the same wok, sauté diced onions, minced garlic, and ginger for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until bright green. Then, add cooked noodles and toss to combine.
  • Pour the prepared sauce and the cornstarch slurry over the pan, stirring well to coat everything.
  • Finally, return the seared beef to the wok and toss gently until heated through and the sauce has thickened.

Notes

Serve with crispy spring rolls or egg rolls for a complete meal. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
